Asylum Superintendent Dr. Frederic Heigel, a philosophical disciple of Nietzche’s superman, believed that the convention of morality was an obstacle to freedom, that a mind was not truly whole until freed from the illusion of Right and Wrong. His ‘therapies’ were tortures designed to destroy the conscience and blur the lines of good and evil.
